A GEOFF WILLIS hat-trick has helped Waterside C to top place in the Kings Volvo Southampton Table Tennis League.

They saw off Waterside B, with Malcolm Bunce winning twice, along with Geoff Willis in the doubles. For the B team, Rob Carr won twice while Rob Doe and Idris Vernall each collected singles.

In a hard-fought battle, Ordnance Survey A and St Denys A shared the honours in a 5-5 draw. Phil Allen was undefeated for OS, and in doing so he inflicted the second defeat of the season on David Dobson.

Ivan Mcmorran won one game and with Phil Allen took the doubles. Julian Rickman won twice and Barry Dobson once for St. Denys.

A maximum from Chris Shetler gave Snows E a 7-3 victory over lowly BAT A. Anne Longland collected a brace of wins. Pete Brown was the other winners for Snows. Barry Wilson with two wins and Jamie Pothecary with one were the BAT winners.

Two victories from14-year-old reserve Chris Willsher was all that Waterside D could muster when they visited Four Ts A. Willsher was very near to winning his third game only losing to the experienced Ken Palmer 21-17 in the third. Julian Walton and Mark Kimber each won twice for Four Ts.

Three games from Andy Tunks helped Alpha C defeat promotion-chasing Insurance A 6-4. Andy Tunks was supported by Ben Hibbard who won twice, and David Praine with one win. Pete Richardson tasted success twice for Insurance and Chris Bone once.

First maximum of the season for John Stubbs of Alpha D, helped the Division Two side to a 7-3 victory over BAT B.

John Stubbs was supported by Chris Marshall and Craig Rennie with two games each. For BAT, Andrzej Ottembrajt won twice and the Tobaccomen also took the doubles.

Hedge End C and Insurance B finished 5-5l, with Ted Baker and new player Tim Saunders, who replaced injured Graham Mitchell, each winning twice. Brian Darch chipped in with one win for Hedge End.

Two games from Dan Ashton and one each from Steve Whieford and Harold Gunter plus the doubles were the winners for Insurance.

Terry Littlewood's maximum could not prevent his team NF Nalgo going down 6-4 in a match with six ties going to three games to Hedge End B. Shapour Mehrkar, Terry Mills and Barry Mores each won twice for Hedge End.

Four Ts B and St Denys D fought out a 5-5 draw. Des Ely won twice for Four T's while David Cosway and Chris Sims each won once. A maximum from Andy Hallett and two wins from Richard Darch were the winners for St Denys.

Alpha D also saw off Hedge End B 7-3. John Stubbs scored his second maximum of the week, supported by two games from Peter Humphry and one from Craig Rennie.

Shapour Mehrkar won twice for Hedge End and Barry Morse once.

This victory moves Alpha D to top of the Division, but they have played more games than the teams below them.
