A MAKESHIFT rink skipped by Roger Parsons proved the trump card as Riverside whitewashed New Milton 8-0 (93-59 on shots) in the Hampshire League Division 2.

Late withdrawals meant Parsons was the only rem-aining member of the rink, but the three reserves - Mike Lecomber, Jeff Solomon and Cec Lawson - played like a dream alongside him to record a 27-9 home win.

Simon Doig (22-20) backed him at Winchester while, at New Milton, Peter Cox and George Doig completed the clean sweep.

Faced with having to field two sides on the same day, Havant opted to play their stronger line-up in the league rather than the Denny Plate - and the move paid off with a rousing 7-1 (92-67) win over East Dorset, whose top players were on Denny Cup duty. Playing on his home carpet, Glyn Jones stole the show for Havant with a 38-14 roasting of Alan Doughty.
