The battlecry roared from the Saints dressing room after they finally secured their first win at their new stadium.

The 1-0 victory over Charlton was their first Premiership success in seven games since the end of September and their first under new boss Gordon Strachan.

A new club record crowd of 31,198 was there to see Southampton climb out of the relegation zone, thanks to a Marian Pahars header which could now kick-start their whole season.

Man-of-the-match Chris Marsden trumpeted: "This win means everything to us. It has been so long coming but this will set us moving now. At the end of the season you look back at defining moments and this may well prove to be ours.

"We have been playing some really good stuff and we are now looking better and better.

"And this time we got that little bit of luck that has been missing when they hit the post late on.

"It is a great feeling to be off the bottom but the key thing now is to push on from here.

"We need a couple more wins to get back into the mid-table pack but this could be the turning point for us."

Anders Svensson produced his best display yet for the club now that he is playing in his preferred central role.

He said: "There was a lot of shouting and screaming in the dressing room afterwards. There was a lot of emotion.

"It was clear just how much this win meant to the players - it was a great feeling to win at the stadium for the first time.

"I see they are selling 'I was there' t-shirts - I think I might get one. It was a momentous occasion."

Paul Jones bounced back from his error at Derby with a clean sheet, the side's first since the departure of Dean Richards.

He said: "When their shot hit the post and came out late on, that was the bit of luck we did not get last week. But it would have been a travesty if it had gone in."
