TWO teams from Basingstoke and Mid-Hants AC finished well at the national cross-country relays at Mansfield.
The senior women recorded their highest ever placing, ninth. The three-kilometre course allowed fast times and Basingstoke road runner of the year Amanda Proctor finished 13th in 10min 53sec.
GB international Angela Newport, competing in her first cross-country of the season, sped round the course in the sixth-fastest time of the day, 10:17, to move the team up to third place. Tracy Cornell ran 23 seconds faster than last year to clock 11:45 for a team time of 32:55.
The under-20 men saw Steven Quinn finish 34th in 10:10. David Ragan completed the course in 9:46, moving the team up to 27th. Tom Bolton was able to move the team up another seven places on the final leg, recording a time of 9:51, to give the team a finishing spot of 20th.
In the second fixture of the Lunnons' Hampshire cross-country league at Prospect Park, Reading, Basingstoke and Mid-Hants under-13 girls were second. Team scorers Wright (9th), Smith (11th) and Sleap (12th) filled second place overall, with three fixtures remaining. Laing came in 22nd.
The under-13 boys race saw Josh Watson 21st, Richard Good 22nd and Lewis Butler 27th. The A-team took fourth place but are third equal overall.
The B-team consisted of Matt Hiorns in 29th, Matt Gibbens 34th and Simon Edis 43rd. An incomplete C-team had Alex Butler placed 44th and Sam Flower placed 51st.
In the under-15 boys, Craig Stevenson was 14th, Robert Gough 19th and Sean Glaysher 25th. The A team were placed third and are second overall in the league.
The B-team saw Anthony Bond 27th, Tim Hiorns 31st and Jonathon Hiorns 35th. Mick Jones was 38th and Matthew Slaney 41st.
In the senior women's race first in for Basingstoke was Amanda Proctor in third place. Bethan Harris was 11th and Helena Tobin 16th. This placed the senior women second and second overall.
Andrea Keough, in 18th, was the first scorer for the vets team and she was followed by senior woman Tracy Cornell in 29th. The second vets team scorer was Linda Purves, placed 50th, who was followed by senior woman Paula Turner in 55th. The veterans team was completed by Sue Perry, in 63rd place. The vets were fourth on the day and fourth overall.
The B vets team had Debbie Gratton home in 75th and Jenny Froud 106th.
The under-17s had Sara Bolton 56th in the senior event. She was followed by Briony Crompton in 76th and Julia Moss completed the A-team in 79th place. In an incomplete under-17 B-team, Becky Ford and Emma Sleap were placed 83rd and 108th respectively. Also running on the day were Alison Mahoney (89th) and Helen Froud (105th).
Three Basingstoke and Mid-Hants members ran the Snowdonia marathon. Don Powell finished in 4:5, Jenny Froud in 4:15 and Wally Thorpe in 4:37.
