Basingstoke Bison 12, Paisley Pirates 1
BASINGSTOKE-born Neil Leary scored his first senior goal for the Basingstoke Bison on Sunday as they thrashed Paisley Pirates 12-1.
Leary received the biggest cheer of the night as he scored the last goal in a contest that the Wella-backed side never looked like losing once they took the lead at 4:01.
It was Derek Higdon who opened the scoring, netting a Jimmy Andersson rebound. Exactly two minutes later Higdon netted again from a Chris Brant cross.
The second penalty of the night saw the home side net shorthanded as Neil Liddiard scored from a Dru Burgess cross.
It was left to man-of-the-match Gary Clarke to end the game as a contest with two goals in the space of 29 seconds - the first giving Rob Lamey his first point for the club on his home debut.
After the break, Liddiard departed for roughing after being elbowed by Dominic Parlatore after 38 seconds.
The Pirates netted on the powerplay as the visitors' man-of-the-match, Jussi Eloranta, scored at 21:25.
The Bison added a sixth as a Matt Cote cross was one-timed home by Burgess at 28:07.
Ryan Aldridge added another, scoring through the legs of the Pirates' netminder and Little's scrambled effort netted at 38:04.
For the start of the final period, Dean Skinns took over from Robert Schistad and turned away all 10 shots he faced.
Just 32 seconds into the session, the Bison scored again as a Higdon cross was put away by Burgess after some nice stick handling from close range.
Just 30 seconds later, a Brant shot from the right wing boards went in to bring up double figures, before Cote ,with a nice individual strike, netted another.
The most bizarre penalty of the night came at 53:41 as Joe Baird picked up four minutes in penalties for illegal equipment and unsportsmanlike conduct as he punched Eloranta after losing his helmet.
It was left to Leary to complete the scoring after he was set up by Burgess.
