Paul Jones has vowed to bounce back stronger than ever after his error which cost Saints the game at Derby.
The Welsh international misjudged a sliced up-and-under from James Beattie which spun crazily against a post and in off Youl Mawene.
It was the kind of bizarre goal which is bound to feature on blooper videos.
But it has simply made Jones more determined than ever to help Saints beat Charlton on Saturday to secure their first win at the new stadium.
He said: "Beats took a swing at it and the ball looped right above me then just came back.
"You can see from the video I was watching it all the way and I thought it had gone behind but the spin brought it back.
"The lad on the line knew nothing about it as it hit him on the knee and went in. It was a real freak goal. I have never seen a ball go that high from a swing like that.
"It was just one of those bizarre things but I won't let it get to me. These things happen and the most important thing is how you deal with them.
"Goalkeepers will always make mistakes and there have been a few high profile ones in recent weeks.
"And of course they usually lead to a goal so they are highlighted all the more.
"But I will bounce back from it just as I did after the one at Old Trafford just over a year ago.
"This does not feel like that one where the ball popped through my legs. It just feels like a freak goal which is hard to explain."
Bizarrely Saints' failure to win at home seems to be increasing demand for tickets from fans who all want to be there for the first victory at the new stadium.
The club have sold close on 28,000 tickets for Saturday's home game against Charlton.
They are on general sale, as are tickets for Tuesday's Worthington League Cup fourth round tie at Bolton which are priced at just £10 for adults and £5 for children.
Tickets for tonight's Under-20 international between England and Portugal at the Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium cost £3 for adults and unaccompanied children.
Accompanied children under 16 will be admitted free. Fans can pay on the turnstiles but normal car park passes are not valid for this match.
