THERE were plenty of famous faces on show when a host of celebrity lookalikes turned out for the big switch-on of Basingstoke's Christmas lights.
Panto star Keith Chegwin was the genuine star in the town centre as he enjoyed the fun and promoted Mother Goose, this year's festive show at The Anvil.
Elsewhere, shoppers were able to mingle with a host of lookalikes including Del Boy, Madonna, Patsy from Ab Fab, Dame Edna Everage and Lily Savage.
A Tina Turner lookalike strutted her stuff on stage, telling Basingstoke: "You're simply the best!" while Ali G's double asked borough mayor Rose Wellman if she would like to rap. Unfortunately, the mayor was lost for words, let alone rap.
As the lights went on throughout the town centre on Thursday evening, there were cheers from the shoppers gathered around the Christmas tree in The Malls.
Jane Stewart, the marketing and promotions manager for Festival Place developers Grosvenor, said: "This year we made the switching-on a bigger event and we had more performers here."
