KINGSCLERE'S Nigel Baker recorded his second victory in division one after the second round of The Berry Bros & Rudd Men's Doubles Tennis League with 28 points.

Baker was only four points ahead of BDH men's first team player John Milne.

Last week's division two winner Bill Judge was relegated after losing all three sets each by a close score and the final set going to a tie-break.

Division two was set up to be the most competitive league with Kingsclere player Bob Buffrey promoted on 28 points over second place David Hester from Newbury by four points.

In third place was Kintbury's Franklin Brooke-Hitching, who stood in for Bramley's Duncan Walker. He was only two points behind on 22 and Ramsdell player Farid Motamed was relegated on 16 points.

Division 3 saw BDH men's B captain Paul Allen from Charter Alley return back to division two winning all three sets.

Allen achieved the highest score of the week getting 32 points.

Nick Walker from Hook returned to division 4 after winning his first match but a disappointing third set, losing 6-2, cost him his division three place.

Division 4 saw the up and coming 16-year-old Peter Hale from Tadley win all three matches and promotion to division three with a score of 24 points.

Second place was tied between Rod Smith from Steventon and Charter Alley's Iain Griffin on 21 points.

Wolverton's John Roche achieved a personal best of 18 points in division four.

The league has been fiercely competitive and has created a great deal of interest with over 24 players now on the waiting list to be included in the next season after Christmas.

It's the only league in Doubles where players can enter individually to find out how effective they are as a doubles player.

Berry Bros. & Rudd have been delighted with the interest in the league and have agreed to support it for the next season.
