TRAGEDY struck in the Southampton FA Cup as Netley Veterans' 36-year-old stalwart, Dave Roberts, suffered a heart attack and died on Saturday afternoon during their A Cup tie with AFC Phoenix.

SFA President Bob Crompton has offered to host a tribute match at Netley Sports ground. All teams in the Drew Smith Homes Saturday League will observe a minute's silence in Dave's memory this coming Saturday.

Cup holders Winchester City stormed through to the last 16 with a 6-0 win against Porter FC as Stuart Findlay hit three, Alan Bunday 2 and Kev Tugwell one.

Hamble ASSC went one better thrashing Wildern 7-0 with Louis Langdown on a treble and a pair a piece from Darren Hedges and Rich Moran.

Among the favourites for the trophy are Vosper Thornycroft who won 3-1 at Winchester City A courtesy of a Jason Hurst double and Andy Pattison.

Vosper Reserves were not so fortunate and went down 2-0 at home to Mottisfont with Ian Bradwell and Taylor responsible.

Netley Central proved too strong for Drew Smith Senior 2 table toppers Mill Hill inflicting a 5-0 defeat with goals from Dave Ashley, Fernandez Valdevielso, Paul Wren, Dave Morris and Graham Calder.

Semi-finalists last season, Locks Heath, look good for at least a repeat after a fine 3-1 defeat of Pirelli General and that after trailing to a first half penalty.

Former youth team prodigies Marc and Danny Jones were again on the mark with Rich Mondey also weighing in as Heath finished 3-1 winners.

Esso Fawley ended comfortable 4-1 winners against Ordnance Survey with Paul Pallister on a double, Roy Viner and Darren Clarke.

There were a couple of shocks as BTC Soton defeated Q K Soton 3-2 thanks to goals from Danny Smart, Ben Keypacks and a Lee Allen screamer.

Sporting BTC gave BAT a mauling as Lee Lake, Matt Edwards with a freekick, Mick Newell and Jason Gosney following a jinking run, secured a 4-0 verdict.

Brendon Reserves took the lead on five minutes at Botley Village through Terry Norris, but Botley bounced back to win 2-1 with Geoff Wright and Gordon McKeen on target.

Durley knocked out Blackfield & Langley Res 4-2 with Martin Chamberlain on a double, Ken Mould and Alan Darling joining in.

Fair Oak made it a miserable afternoon for Q K Soton who led 1-0 through Mike Banks, but the Oak grew in strength and won 3-1 with Glen Rhodes, Steve Saxby and Andy Harvey scoring.

Having knocked out Colden Common in round one, Eastleigh Comrades were expected to overcome Old Tauntonians with ease but OT's had different ideas and soaked up tremendous pressure before stealing a single goal victory from Simon Gowans after a cheeky Martin Tyler flick on.

Townhill Park led Premier Division North Baddesley through Tim Wild but Baddesley equalised through Andy Burroughs, and sealed victory with a Danny Fee strike after Townhill had been reduced to ten men.

The draw will take place on Wednesday evening before the SFA Council meeting.
