Following reports that the 2001 version of the racing classic Sydney to Hobart Race would be cancelled due to a lack of sponsor, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia eventually confirmed the race would after all go ahead.
Around 80 yachts will line up on Boxing Day, December 26. "We are in fact proceeding without a naming rights sponsor, enabling us for the first time in many years to return to a race run under the club's own name," said Commodore, Hans Sommer.
