Hayling Island's Samantha Davies was the first woman to cross the finish line in Brazil in the Mini Transatlantic Race recently.
She arrrived in Port de Bahia in Salvador after racing single-handed in her tiny 21ft yacht Aberdeen Asset Management from La Rochelle via Lanzarote. Davies arrived looking happy and relieved, wearing a swimming costume and sunglasses.
Conditions were difficult with changeable weather, varying from too much wind to too little. "I feel a huge sense of achievement to have finished this race," said Davies, a former training partner of Shirley Robertson and a member of Tracy Edward's Royal & SunAlliance. "It was even tougher than I thought, both mentally and physically. I had an awesome welcome into Salvador in 13th place, and first girl to arrive."
