BASINGSTOKE did not start the game to well, and after a couple of attacks on the Basingstoke line, Staines won a lineout 15 metres from the line, and it was played back to the fly -half who dropped a goal.
Staines missed two penalty opportunities from both sides of the pitch but on 27 minutes again the Stoke defence gave away a penalty this time dead in front of the posts, giving Staines a easy kick, and this was the way it remained till half time.
In the second half Basingstoke started to regain their form and scored on 13 minutes when the ball was moved out down the backline and Gareth Hattinge looped round and managed to get over the line in the right corner. He then had a chance to extend Basingstoke's lead from the left touchline, but he pulled his kick past the right post.
For the final 10 minutes, Basingstoke managed to keep Staines in their own half, but in the final minute the home side were awarded a penalty 40 metres out, but the Staines kicker dragged the ball wide of the right post which turned out to be the final kick of the game.

After Staines scored a converted try, the Cavs hit back three minutes later as Russell Blackburn broke away moving the ball to Toby Fryer who had a superb 15- metre run before supporting player John Jacob's collected the ball and working with winger Tony Bray he eventually scored in the corner.
Fryer 10 minutes later started the move which saw Jacob's score his second try.
Just before half-time good hands allowed full back Neil Hatherall to score a great try to leave it 17-7 at half-time.
Staines hit back after the break with two tries before Blackburn replied with a score and then Fryer with a penalty.
With three minutes to go the victory was secured as Hugh Chauner scored in the corner.
