JUST a few months after it began broadcasting, Garrison Radio has moved home.

Instead of being out of sight in Bulford the team, which includes former Radio 1 man Mark Page, has moved to Tidworth - next door to Britain's busiest NAAFI store in Station Road.

It is in a property partnership with NAAFI Financial. Radio staff have already noticed a big difference.

"We are certainly getting a much better response than before as people see us out and about," said manager Paul Harper. "There has definitely been a big influx of information about what is going on in the area."

The station provides a service on 1287am medium wave for the garrisons in Tidworth, Bulford and Netheravon and concentrates on issues that affect servicemen and women locally as well as popular music.

Some of the voluntary broadcasters are from the services. When soldiers serve overseas the station hopes to provide a link between them and the families they left behind in Tidworth.

One volunteer is Staff Sergeant Hal Cross who broadcasts on Sunday evening when he is available and clearly enjoys it.

"There is a certain amount of inter-regimental rivalry so there can be some regimental banter," said Hal of 1 RHA.

He has another seven years to serve in the forces but a radio career could beckon.
