STUART Hussey should be a Bashley player in time for tonight's annual David Jose memorial match against Jewson Wessex League champions Andover.

The Dr Martens Eastern Division club have agreed a £2,500 fee with New Forest neighbours Brockenhurst for the 20-year-old former Portsmouth, Bristol City and Derby County striker and were expected to complete the paperwork last night.

Hussey, who last week had trials with Nationwide Conference outfit Yeovil, only joined Brock in June from Lymington & New Milton and will leave without kicking a ball for them in the Jewson Wessex League.

New Bash boss Derek Binns was the man who took Southampton-based Hussey to Lymington last season and said: "Stuart's a very versatile player who scores goals out of nothing. He's got a great attitude, works hard and is very ambitious to get back into the professional game. If he gets everything right here, he will be putting himself into the shop window."

Bash have also agreed terms with Eastleigh midfielder Kevin Brewster, who is included in tonight's squad.

Brockenhurst have a high-profile friendly lined up tonight against Swindon Town (7pm), who have just unveiled Roy Evans and Neil Ruddock as their managerial one-two.

It will be a special evening for Brock's player/assistant boss Jimmy Sheppard who had a spell with the Robins as a youngster.

Havant & Waterlooville have been hit hard in the pocket by cancellation of last night's friendly against Portsmouth which would have marked the opening of their new stand.

Although H&W fully appreciate Pompey's reasons for calling off the match in the wake of the tragic death of goalkeeper Aaron Flahavan, they missed out on an estimated £12,000-£15,000 in gate receipts, bumper bar takings and have been left with 1,000 unused match programmes which cost over £1 each to produce.

"It's a pretty disastrous thing for us," admitted secretary Trevor Brock. "We'd hoped the game might be rearranged for next week, but Pompey have a reserve game against Brighton. We've got no spare date until the end of September, so I don't know what we'll do about officially opening the stand. Pompey are the only opponents that guarantee us a huge crowd."

Ambitious Hampshire League club Winchester City held Conference giants Yeovil Town to a 0-0 draw in front of a 523 crowd at their new-look City ground on Saturday. New signing Alan Bundy from BAT went closest to scoring when he rattled the base of the post.
