A BRACE of superb plaice have been caught by local anglers, with 14-year-old Jack Haynes beaching a beauty during a sortie to Abbotsbury which tipped the scales down to 4-4.
The youngster, who comes from Sholing, used ragworm presented on a size 2 Aberdeen to tempt the specimen during an afternoon session, which also produced lots of mackerel.
The oversize redspot is the heaviest fish that Haynes has ever landed.
Mark Easen, a 37-year-old postal worker, was also on the plaice trail during a sortie on the Lymington-based boat Sundance11 skippered by Roger Bayzand.
Fishing over a mark along the southern side of the Isle of Wight Eason used a lug/squid cocktail to tempt a huge specimen which thumped the scales down to an incredible 8lb 12oz.
The massive specimen sets a new personal best as well as setting a new record for Sundance, beating the previous best plaice by over 1lb 8oz.
The action was pretty hectic least during the latest round of the NFSA Wessex Division pegged measure and return open league held along the Ferry Bridge section of Chesil.
A total of 842 fish were apprehended, the haul included bull huss, red gurnard, tub gurnard, poor cod, pout, rays, scad and smoothhound.
Steve Harder from Southampton won A section with 1420 points followed by Alan Gilbert 1004, Paul Stevens 846 and Dave Lane 842.
The overall match winner from B section was Pete Hegg, who recorded 67 scad and a solitary poor cod worth 1776 points to get the better of England international Ian Golds with 1644 points followed by Wayne Pidgely 1254 and John Lintern 1227.
The pool for the longest fish went to Paul Goodhew from Southampton with an 84cm ray while Trevor Spencer was the runner-up with a 65cm bull huss.
Wayne Pidgely tops the overall leader table with just 11 penalty points ahead of Brian Dawkins 15, Tony O'Grady 16, Ian Golds & Mick Goodger 18 and Alan Gilbert 20.
The penultimate match in the series will be held on September 15 at Hordle Cliff.
The first round of the Isle of Wight Division of the NFSA club team event produced some reasonable sport with 16 teams getting a slice of the action.
The heaviest fish was an 11lb 10oz smoothhound beached by Rob Bennett representing Sandown SAC. The top club on the night was BHC with 17lb 9.25oz followed by Ventnor B 16lb 2.50oz, Sandown 12lb 15.75oz, West Wight AC 12lb 2.25oz, Readers B 8lb 13.25oz, Ventnor A 4lb 12.25oz, Totland B 4lb 7.75oz, and Readers A 2lb 8.50oz.
The next match in the series will be held on September 5. It will be a pier leg with only two anglers per team.
