A BURGLAR responsible for a series of raids on Fareham homes was spotted by his latest victim.

A skinheaded intruder climbed through an unlocked window on Spice Wood, in the Catisfield area.

The householder was woken when the thief left through the front door with a PlayStation game and CDs.

The occupant looked through the upstairs bedroom window and caught a glimpse of the intruder walking down the street with what looked like the PlayStation.

The thief is described as being male, white, 6ft, having a near skinhead hair cut and wearing a blue jumper, blue jeans and white training shoes.

There have been about five similar so-called creeper burglaries in the same area in the past two weeks. Last week a dog disturbed an intruder, off Highlands Road, who walked into a kitchen at night through an unlocked door and stole a handbag.

Sgt Andy Houghton, of Fareham police, said: "Similar thefts have involved a thief creeping around homes looking for weak spots such open windows and unlocked doors. They look for the low-risk and easiest way of getting into homes for obvious targets like handbags. The repeated message is for householders to lock their doors and windows at night, especially during hot nights when they would prefer them open.

"People might feel safe if they are indoors at night to leave windows open, but they are just leaving opportunities for thieves.''
