THE Yacht Haven will be heavin' every night during Skandia Life Cowes Week as some of the top names in tribute pop arrive on the Island for a series of stonkin' good gigs.
For three years now Carphone Warehouse has laid on free entertainment for around 5,000 party-goers in Cowes Yacht Haven every night from 6pm onwards.
The early part of each gig will feature an Island band then the big name entertainers will come on a couple of hours later, culminating on Friday night with the unmissable Bootleg Beatles.
For 15 minutes each evening, the sound checks will be put on hold while sponsors Skandia Life make their awards to the best performing sailors of the day but then the hip-hopping carousing starts in earnest.
Neil Duttson of Fifth Element, which booked all the acts and set up the stage, said that after last year when local residents complaints over noise almost forced Carphone Warehouse boss Charles Dunstone to pull the plug on his sponsorship, new arrangements had been put in place.
"More money has gone into it this year and the calibre of the stage reflects that," said Duttson, who is also in charge of the entertainment during the America's Cup Jubilee, including the Jubilee Ball at Osborne House.
"We've sheeted off the back of the stage so there is less noise going into the town. We have been very conscientious about that and will work closely this week with local environmental health officers."
He added: "More speakers have been put up in the dead areas so if the volume did need to be dropped, the sound in the arena will still be as loud."
