A MAGNIFICENT wall hanging, made by the Sprat and Winkle Quilters to mark the millennium has been presented to the villagers of Goodworth Clatford.
It was received by Ann Buckley, chairman of the parish council, and Tony Bridger, president of the village club from Gail Rist, the quilters' chairman. The quilters have been meeting in the village for 20 years.
The hanging is an aerial representation of Good-worth Clatford, depicting all the houses, river and surrounding countryside and has the family names of the residents on 1 January 2000 embroidered around the edge.
The design was the work of Jill Findley and the quilt took two years to complete. After Jill moved to Henley the work of co-ordinating over 30 quilters passed to Ann Ohlenschlager.
Special mention was made of Barbara White and Jenny Gillingham who worked on the motifs, Pat Richards and Mary Tomlinson who did much of the quilting and Margaret Burden who embroidered the border names, a huge task which took most of last summer. The names of the quilters appear at the bottom of the quilt.
Their work won a prize for the best group quilt in the Maria Peters' Quilt Days show and received a special award at Quilts UK in Malvern.
