Bashley have confirmed Staines Town's former Farnborough striker Nick Hooper is their number one target.

Although the Foresters have been strongly linked with Lymington & New Milton's Leigh Phillips, 20-year-old Hooper has always been top of their list.

Based in Andover, the former Peter Symonds College student is a friend of Bash chairman David Malone's son and was in the same college team as Foresters' goalkeeper Ollie Rastall.

His career with Farnborough was interrupted by a broken leg, but he bounced back to score more than 20 goals for Staines last season in the Ryman League Division 1.

Malone confirmed: "We've already had an offer for Nick rejected by Staines but we are going back with another one. The lad's told us that he wants to play for Bashley but he's got another year on his contract with Staines and I don't think they're keen to part with him."

Bashley, meanwhile, will have to cough up £2,000 for 19-year-old midfielder Gary Funnell from Weymouth.

With Bash unwilling to meet Terras' £5,000 asking price, the fee was set by an FA tribunal at Soho Square. "I'm mildly happy with the outcome," said Malone. "If the fee had been under £2,000 it would have been a victory and anything over £3,000 would have been a real defeat."

l Salisbury's bid to sign striker Leigh Phillips from Lymington & New Milton is dependent on whether the Linnets can replace him with Steve Tate from Newport IoW.

Lymington boss Graham Kemp has confirmed his interest in Bournemouth-based Tate but says the deal is "no go" at the moment because they cannot match the wages he is getting on the Island.

Waiting in the wings are Salisbury, who have been scouring the area for a frontline partner for Paul Sales and would dearly like to grant Phillips his wish of Dr Martens Premier football.

Sales has recovered well from groin and knee operations and scored on his comeback last night in a 2-1 home friendly defeat by Basingstoke Town.

Salisbury were today expected to sign former Saints trainee midfielder Ben Madgwick.

Phillips was also on target last night as Lymington outgunned Hamworthy Recreation 3-2. Richard Glenister and Mark Smith completed the job.

Havant & Waterlooville's run of four straight friendly wins ground to a halt in a 2-2 draw at Gosport Borough.

Neil Scannell punished a poor back pass by H&W co-manager Liam Daish to put theWessex side ahead, Tim Hambley and Phil Barnett turned the tables and former Eastleigh striker Steve Wheatland bagged a deserved Borough equaliser. Ex-Saints youngster Neil Davis got a midfield run-out for H&W.

Alex Rossi netted Brockenhurst's consolation in a 3-1 home defeat by Dorchester.
