A TEENAGE store assistant dived onto the bonnet of a car to save himself after giving chase to shoplifters.
Jon Noble, 19, ran after the two thieves after they walked into a One Stop convenience store, in Ashdown Road, Chandler's Ford, and grabbed a box of 12 cans of lager
Giving chase, Jon suddenly found himself running head on towards the shoplifters' car, which was speeding towards him.
He said: "I jumped and managed to get a foot on the bonnet, landed on the windscreen and managed to grab the open sunroof. I was trying to stop myself getting too damaged at this point."
He added: "I was slightly reluctant to let go, so I put my foot through the open driver's window and managed to take the keys out the ignition from the sunroof.
University student Jon, of North Millers Dale, Chandler's Ford, played down his heroic effort.
He said: "I'm alright - a bit shaken with a graze down my side"
My parents weren't too pleased with me, they thought it was a silly thing to do. I suppose jumping onto the car was really the silly thing."
The shoplifters, who were in their late teens or early 20s, were driving a brown Vauxhall, believed to be a Cavalier or Carlton.
A 20-year-old man has been helping police with their enquiries.
l Witnesses to last Thursday's incident at 2.30pm should call police on 0845 045 4545.
