ANDOVER'S Salisbury & District team, away to Alderbury last week, had a good night by picking up 11 of the 14 points but the following evening the town club went out of the Hants & Berks Cup in their quarter-match with Basingstoke side Thornycroft, losing on overall shots after winning two of the three rinks (reports Johnnie Johnston).
Unfortunately, the Andover 'C' team's winning run in the Whitchurch & District League finally came to an end last week, losing 4-1 against Oakley 'A', whilst the 'A' team also went down 3-2 away to Oakley 'B'.
However, all was not lost as the 'B' team regained top spot in the second division after beating St Mary Bourne 4-1 and the Thursday Afternoon mixed triples maintained their excellent form with a 5-0 win at Thornycroft.
Sunday was the town club's Lady Captain's Day and no fewer than 34 bowlers, plus 18 spectators, were present to acknowledge both the hard work and popularity of Irene Hunt. Fun was the order of the day with five different competitions on the green, followed by a lovely tea, raffle and prize giving in the clubhouse, with all the proceeds starting the fund raising for the new pergoda, the choice of Andover's lady captain.
Monday saw the Salisbury & District team rounding off an excellent week's bowls with the away game at Salisbury.
What a great game, only two shots divided the four rinks at the end as Andover took the honours by 10 points to 4.
Andover will be hosting their popular Men's Open Pairs event this Saturday and the following weekend will be holding their annual match against the Andover Blind and Visually Impaired Bowling Club at the local green.
