Kevin Saunders may be the new Southern PGA champion - but he's not having things his own way in Hampshire.
For the second event in a row the Barton-on-Sea tournament professional had to be content with runners-up slot, this time in the Hampshire Alliance Championship at Test Valley.
The winner by three shots was Portsmouth-based Richard Berry with scores of 68 and 70. Saunders, who went into the event on the back of a last green defeat in the final of the Hampshire PGA Matchplay Championship, fired rounds of 69 and 72.
James Ablett (Alresford) finished in a tie for third place with The Army professional Graham Cowley, two shots behind Saunders, but Ablett had the consolation of winning the Trainees Cup with scores of 71, 72.
Meon Valley clubman Terry Drake carded scores of 81 and 82 to finish a shot ahead of Alresford's David Farr, the Hampshire Alliance secretary, in the amateur scratch section. Best handicap score, a nett 139, was chalked up by Robin Giddings (Waterlooville with Dummer's Keith Kimber second.
Alresford enjoyed a one-two in the Veterans Handicap Cup, won by Nick Male (72 & 73) from clubmate Chub Young.
