Don't Dress For Dinner, Lee Players, Crofton Community Hall, Stubbington
THIS is a marvellously inventive play, a modern classic of the French farce genre, and Lee Players are to be congratulated on choosing such a challenging text.
A first act, which so cleverly created apparently insoluble complexities, needed fast, sharp delivery and subtle changes of tone and expression.
At times, the committed cast were rather hesitant and too many prompts marred the flow.
However, the shaky start was overcome as the performers got into their stride. Peter Vincent as the friend and adulterer showed good expression and the whole play was lifted by Paula Cartwright's languorously seductive model.
Kath Edge as the cook mistaken for the mistress showed good comic timing.
This is a truly funny farce and well worth going to see.
