DRAINAGE improvements to a flood-hit area of Fareham and a special site at Bishop's Waltham have been announ-ced by the Environment Agency.
The agency is asking the water company to carry out improvements to the drainage system serving Wallington, which has suffered flooding over the years. Work involves improving the unsatisfactory combined sewer overflow.
The agency is also taking urgent action to save The Moors, a site of special scientific interest at Bishop's Waltham.
The Moors lie on the spring line of the Upper Hamble river. Water stored in the chalk rises to the surface to form the headwaters of the Hamble. At the Moors, the springs rise though unique "sandboils."
The site is the home to several rare wetland plants and animals. It is at risk if a nearby Portsmouth Water Company pumping station is operated for any length of time.
The pumping station is used by the company as a standby source.
