DEREK KENWAY and Alan Mullally gave another little reminder to the England selectors, knowing they can give them a real dig in the ribs with an elbow next week.
On the day England failed with bat and ball against Australia, Kenway put his hand up as a member of the next generation ready and willing to take on the challenge after a career-best 166 against Nottinghamshire at The Rose Bowl.
England currently look bancrupt of ideas as to how to beat the Aussies in the second Test, with just about all the senior players in the country having been given a crack at Test level.
The recall to the colours of the likes of Mark Ramprakash and Mark Butcher clearly haven't been a great success and should Australia go 3-0 up in the series, England's selectors could well use the two dead rubbers to look at new players.
And with the Aussies due up at The Rose Bowl next week, Kenway - and Mullally, who is in cracking form with the ball - both have a tailor-made opportunity to catch the eye against the old enemy.
