PARISH councillors are to mount a DIY effort in a desperate bid to crack down on juvenile troublemakers in Fair Oak... by buying a CCTV system off-the-shelf.
Councillors are turning to B&Q for a £100 camera, because they are fed up with waiting for firms to give them quotes on how much a full-scale CCTV and security lighting scheme would cost.
Fair Oak and Horton Heath Parish Council has been waiting for months for cost estimates for the scheme at the recreation ground in Shorts Road - now known as New Century Park.
The showpiece park has been plagued by vandalism. At the weekend the park's £15,000 trim trail for joggers and walkers was targeted by vandals who smashed a section of it to bits.
Parish Councillor Roger Smith said: "For £100 from B&Q you can buy a monitor and camera.
"We could have the camera in the window here and all you have to do is play it back in the morning and see what's on it."
