THE word "eclectic" could have been invented to describe the Gosport Summer Festival.
Because where else would you get the likes of soul godfather James Brown, TV stalwart Rolf Harris and teen-friendly chart-toppers Atomic Kitten sharing the same bill?
The festival, which takes place at Fort Brockhurst, Gosport, from August 9 to 12, is famous for its mixed-bag approach.
But this year's event surely beats all previous efforts, with a stunning line-up which takes variety to new heights.
The headline act will be James Brown, whose appearance on the opening day of the festival is likely to be his only UK show this year.
Yet other big names include Leo Sayer, Fish from Marillion and Queen drummer Roger Taylor - all teaming up to appear in The SAS Band (Spike's All Stars) on Saturday, August 11.
Also appearing on Saturday night will be 10cc and Abba tribute the Fabba Girls.
The closing night of the festival will see The Millennium Orchestra performing a "Last Night of the Proms"-style concert, complete with spectacular fireworks finale.
The Gosport Summer Festival is the biggest live music festival in Hampshire this year and will attract visitors from all over Britain and Europe.
As well as the evening concerts, it features daytime family entertainment, a local bands competition, a craft fair and international food fair.
Tickets for all concerts are on sale from the festival's 24-hour ticket line (0870 603 2665) and on the website at www.ticketweb. co.uk
