BARBARA DICKSON isn't the only cast member of Spend Spend Spend to be treated like a star.
For the singer and West End actress, who plays pools winner Viv Nicholson in the musical at The Mayflower from tomorrow, is joined in the show by two canaries - both of whom are receiving the full A-list treatment.
The show's feathered star Nellie, and her understudy Billie, star alongside a cast of 20 humans in the award-winning show, which tells the turbulent life story of the pools winner who vowed to "spend, spend, spend" following a £152,000 football pools win in 1962.
The canaries both travel in the fully-cushioned front cab of one of the tour wagons, looked after by driver Paul.
Their every birdie whim is catered for, with food and drink in constant supply and a cage cover on hand in case of bouts of showbiz exhaustion.
When they arrive at each venue, the birds are immediately placed in the care of assistant stage manager Parmi.
The birds will be unveiled to the press tomorrow in a press photocall at The Mayflower, alongside Dickson and co-star Rachel Leskovac, who plays the young Viv Nicholson.
Tickets for Spend Spend Spend, which opens at The Mayflower tomorrow and runs until July 28, are still available. For more information, call the box office on 023 8071 1811.
