PITMORE Special School at Chandler's Ford is set to enter a new era from September with a change of name and new key staff.

And the campus - which will be known as Lakeside School - will also go into the new school year with a positive report from Ofsted inspectors who have assessed it as an improving school where weaknesses have already been recognised and plans put in place to address them.

Teaching was found to be good or better in two thirds of lessons, which works with boys aged 11-16 who have emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Approximately 50 per cent of the pupils are weekly boarders and many of the pupils have previously been excluded from other mainstream or special schools.

The Ofsted report highlighted the need to further develop the curriculum, to improve pupils' levels of achievement in English and to improve pupils' attitudes to learning.

Chairman of governors Judith Wade said: "The past year has seen many changes at the school. Ofsted has recognised the progress achieved by staff. I am confident that further improvements will be made."
