A MAN was severely burned on his arms, hands and legs when he tackled a chip pan fire in his kitchen.
The father, aged in his early 30s, put the flames out, but needed to call an ambulance to take him to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.
Hospital staff advised him to call the fire service to check the blaze was extinguished to protect his house in Hilton Road. Firefighters arrived two hours after the fire last night to confirm the fire was out on Hilton Road, Gosport.
Leading firefighter Jim Buck said: "This man was badly hurt tackling a chip pan fire. We'd advise people that unless they are confident they can manage then the best thing is to shut the door on the fire scene and call us.''
