TEENAGE tearaways Moise and Alida Viator bring their eight-piece band Eh, La-Bas! to jam at The Joiners, Southampton, on July 26. The precocious duo, from New Orleans, are accompanied by a rhythm section which reads like a hall of fame of Louisiana's finest musicians.
Rated as the hottest dance act in the Creole tradition, Eh, La-Bas! come to Southampton after a roof-raising appearance at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
Moise is just 19 years old and plays guitar, with Alida, only 16, on fiddle.
Both share vocals on material as varied as down-home duets, Creole jazz and Caribbean calypso, with an impressive repertoire of Cajun and contemporary Zydeco styles in between.
The kings of rhythm sharing the stage with Moise and Alida include Etienne Viator on mandolin, accordion, percussion and vocals, Scotty "T-Bone" Hill - who has recorded with Ella Fitzgerald and Dr John - on trombone, and Joseph Torregano on clarinet and saxophone.
Completing the line-up are Michael Burtchall on trumpet and keyboards, Robert Snow on bass, and Kevin Q Estoque on drums, all of whom have CVs which read like a who's who of jazz and showbiz greats.
Doors open at 8pm for a steamy session which gets under way an hour or so later. Admission costs £5. For more information, call The Joiners on 023 8022 5612 or visit the website at www.joinerslive.com
