FIVE primary schools from the Lymington area celebrated their cricketing prowess after taking part in a government-sponsored sports initiative.
The schools - Beaulieu, South Baddesley, Tiptoe, St Luke's of Sway and William Gilpin of Boldre - batted it out in a cricket skills tournament held at Priestlands School, Lymington.
The event was organised by the Buxton MCC Cricket Challenge, supported by Sportsmatch initiative.
Cricket Challenge spokesman Jim Sutton said: "With the England Test team currently on a high it is a vital time to consolidate the sport. This is the third year we have 'watered the grass roots of cricket' in primary schools all over the country."
The Lymington schools have reached Cricket Challenge Level Three - the local tournament designed to test eight specific skills. The winning teams were awarded a framed certificate.
Next stage is the summer cricket camp - an event to be held at Lymington Recreation Ground from August 13 to 15.
