IT was a day for artistic and horticultural flair at Chute village hall on Saturday as villagers prepared for tomorrow's flower show.
A special flowerpot painting workshop was designed to encourage as many children as possible to go along to the flower show where the winner in various classes will be announced.
The potato weighing contest, now in its fourth year, proved to be as competitive as ever with some impressive crops.
Each contestant has to grow a specific potato species, which this year was a kestrel, all of which had to be planted on 1 April in a pot no bigger than 12 inches in any direction.
The winning crop grown by Mrs Eileen Soper weighed in at an impressive 3lbs 11oz, an all-time record. Even the second heaviest crop grown by Mrs Christine Newman beat the previous record, weighing in at 3lbs 8oz. The heaviest single potato weighed 8.5oz.
The exhibits will be on display tomorrow.
