HEALTHY lunches were the order of the day at a Hampshire junior school after pupils entered a competition to design the healthiest midday meal.
More than 60 pupils from Siskin Junior School in Gosport took part in the competition.
The event was part of a healthy eating project by the school, designed to show pupils that it is possible to have food which is nutritious, healthy and kind to the teeth.
Community dietician Sarah Brown said the children had really benefited from the project.
She said: "We have been coming into Siskin for about six months now to educate the kids on a balanced diet and the importance of keeping teeth healthy.
"It was good to see they had remembered it all when we came back this time to give the results of the lunchbox competition."
According to class teacher Dave Long-worth the eight- and nine-year-olds' diet at school has improved as a result of the project. He said: "There is no doubt that the quality of their lunches has improved now they have a better understanding of what a balanced diet is."
In the end nine-year-old Kirsty Ryan scooped the prize for the best-designed lunchbox. She won an electric toothbrush for her efforts.
