A POLICE inquiry was under way today after a 13-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted on Southampton Common.
Detectives at Shirley CID said the victim was attacked some time before 10.15pm last night but details remained unclear as police continued investigations. An area of woodland towards the top end of the Common remained sealed off this morning. Meanwhile a solitary police officer stood guard at the junction of Hill Lane and Burgess Road, where pedestrians were being turned away from the Common.
Anyone with information is urged to call Shirley CID on 0845 045 4545, or the free and anonymous Southern Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
