ANOTHER weekend and another crock of national medals for Southampton's Diving Academy.
A team of 11 divers travelled to Cambridge for the ASA National intermediate championships - a stepping-stone for those who haven't yet rated high in the national age-group event, and they came away with five gold, six silver and five bronze medals from 13 events.
Emily Alderman netted two golds and a silver n the 9-11 years age-group, while Kelly Alderman won three silvers in the age-bracket above. Ellie Clewlow, Patrick O'Reilly (both highboard) and Nathan Frost (3-metre springboard) each won a single gold each.
Medallists:
Girls 9 - 11 years: Emily Alderman 3m & highboard gold, 1m silver; Ellie Steel highboard bronze;
Girls 12 - 13 years: Kelly Alderman 1m, 3m, highboard silver; Kelly Burnett 3m bronze;
Girls 14 - 16 years: Ellie Clewlow highboard gold:
Boys 12 - 13 years: Nathan Frost 3m gold
Boys 14 - 16 years: Patrick O'Reilly highboard gold, 1m silver, 3m bronze; Thomas Fotheringham highboard silver; Richard Hall highboard bronze
The club's string of successes at every level this year has helped attract new talent both locally and from as far away as Bath and Oxford to the Quays.
The next challenge will be to attract more coaches capable of bringing on this talent.
"I am delighted with the way the Academy has grown and developed over the first 18 months of its existence," said Nick Bennett-Britton, chairman of the academy's steering committee.
