PEOPLE sandbagged their homes last night after a burst water main turned a Hythe street into a river.
The burst occurred at the top of South Street, sending thousands of gallons of water down a hill towards houses in Shore Road.
One woman, who asked not to be named, said: "I looked out of the window at about 11pm and saw water running down the road.
"Egineers were working all night to repair the leak.''
Today part of South Street was closed to traffic, and areas were covered in silt deposited by the floodwater.
