Solihull Vixens 4, Bison Ladies 2

BASINGSTOKE Bison Ladies never recovered from a 4-0 first period reverse at Solihull where they finally went down 4-2.

The visitors opened the scoring at 19:54 as Carla Gregory netted from Sam Hart and Emma Toose.

Four minutes later Hannah Driver tripped up a Solihull forward and the home side were awarded a penalty shot but Claire Millard, in only her second game for the club, made the save.

A minute later, Debbie Woods reduced the lead to two goals assisted by Hart and the most valuable player, Newman.

There was no further scoring as Millard in the Bison net turned away 35 shots.

They are now at the mid-point of the season and, unlike last season, have recorded more wins than losses.

After eight games, they have won four, drawn one and lost three to go third in division one south behind leaders Romford, who have a 100 per cent record.

Their opening four games of the season were on the road.

They drew at Milton Keynes 4-4, Carla Gregory leading the way with a brace.

They then beat Oxford University 5-4 and cracked Streatham 5-1 where Chrissy Newman picked up the most valuable player award.

A trip to Romford in November saw them lose 5-1 but, a fortnight later, the Bison came back in style winning 12-3 Lisa Murphy leading the way with a hat-trick and Newman, Emma Toose and Julie Saint netted a brace each.

Mary Thomas picked up the most valuable player award and, with Natalie West and Lyndsey Crame, rounded off the tally with a goal apiece.

The first game of this year saw a comfortable 4-0 win over Invicta with Newman scoring her first hat-trick for the team.

Then, a month later, the Bison were narrowly beaten 5-4 by Oxford City Stars, their second defeat of the season.

The Bison, (pictured right) are next in action at home against Milton Keynes on Sunday, April 1.
