The Hamble versus Petersfield Hampshire League 1 game was more like a festive romp then a league game, with Hamble scoring five tries and Petersfield ten as the latter's 60-36 victory hoisted them to third place in the table.

"It was an excellent game for the spectators," observed Hamble spokesman Pete Woolcock. "It was a case of their three-quarters versus our pack, because all of our tries came from the forwards and all of theirs from the backs."

The only other league game saw Fleet wallop Ellingham & Ringwood 47-0 in Hampshire 3.

On the friendly scene, Eastleigh visited Southampton II and suffered a 36-7 reverse.

Eastleigh were well-served by their pack, with Dan Jackson, Ian Struckman and Clive Wooding well to the fore, but the defence was unable to cope with Southampton's quick and efficient passing.

With their Tetley's Bitter Junior Vase tie at Law Society postponed until next week, Fordingbridge picked up a late fixture with Tottonians III. Somewhat predictably, the New Forest outfit proved much too strong for the opposition and ran in nine tries in a 61-0 victory that should have boosted their confidence for next Saturday.

Millbrook split their squad, with a Vets 15 defeating Havant Vets 8-7 and the second team winning 15-7 away to Winchester III.
