THE presents have been unwrapped, the carols have been sung and the turkey eaten, but there is still one reminder of the Christmas season to be dealt with - the tree.

Residents throughout the Basingstoke area are being urged not to dump or burn their trees but to recycle them.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is providing recycling facilities across Basingstoke to prevent trees being dumped or put into wheelie bins.

The Environment Agency is also urging the public to help prevent rivers from flooding by recycling Christmas trees rather than dumping them in waterways.

As well as being green, the people of Basingstoke can help the borough win a recycling award.

Environmental campaigners Going for Green have set up a competition to see which borough in the country will recycle the most trees.
