New season at The Point: The Point, Eastleigh

An inspired, eclectic mix of entertainment is in store at The Point this season, kicking off with some exhilarating performances from three of the country's most exciting contemporary dance companies.

Toxin is being performed by Retina Dance Company on Saturday February 3 and the CandoCo Dance Company present a double bill featuring I Hastened Through My Death Scene to Catch Your Last Act and SunByrne on Thursday February 15.

Retina's captivating and explosive new production is an intriguing fusion of theatricality and vibrant choreography. This is the premiere of Toxin which goes on to tour both the UK and Europe. The theme is two natural poisons - Inkt and Fungus - their potentially destructive forces are played against each other in an explosive, provocative display of contemporary dance that bursts with energy.

CandoCo is the company that has pushed back the boundaries of dance and disability, challenging preconceptions. I Hastened Through My Death Scene to Catch Your Last Act is a piece inspired by the work of Tennessee Williams which expresses the gamut of emotions. SunByrne is a dazzling display of dance skills choreographed by Doug Elkins, famous for encompassing such diverse disciplines as ballet with break-dancing, martial arts and hula.

March at The Point sees the season continue with more dance in the form of A Taste of Phoenix on Friday 30. This popular dance company is presenting a triple bill which promises to be sassy, soulful, humorous, fiery and romantic.

In direct contrast to this feast of contemporary dance, is a revival of Noel Coward's Words and Music - one of the hit shows of the 1999 Edinburgh Festival. The 1932 revue includes some of his best-known tunes and lyrics such as Mad About the Boy and Mad Dogs & Englishmen.

Later in the month award-winning Shakespeare comes to the venue with a production of the hilarious The Merry Wives from Northern Broadsides. The two nights of witty wordplay and funny farce take place on Friday, 23 and Saturday, 24 March.

Continuing with its diverse selection of shows, The Point hosts an evening with Hinge and Bracket in April. The duo have been delighting audiences since they became a hit way back in 1974.

Next up is a powerful conflict of passion and love when Snap Theatre Company present DH Lawrence's Sons & Lovers on Friday April 27.

That's just a taster of the many different productions on offer at The Point this year, where there is, literally, something to suit everyone.
