Basingstoke go into the first of five games on consecutive Saturdays that may well decide their future as a National League Three South outfit when they visit Clifton tomorrow.

The first meeting between the two at Basingstoke on November 18 produced a 19-10 victory for Clifton, but the match could easily have gone the other way.

Clifton themselves are only two places above Basingstoke and three points better off, so this is a fixture that Basingstoke must be targeting as another away victory.

A six-match unbeaten London 1 run by Havant was ended at Harlow on November 11 in a 12-6 defeat - but they can avenge that tomorrow with a team that sees the return to the club of Hywel Williams at scrum-half. Alan Barnes is restored on the wing and Adam Jewitt reverts to full-back.

Winchester visit second-placed Norwich without several key players, including prop Jason Fayers, who is moving to New Zealand. This means a recall at fly-half for the vastly-experienced Martin Livesey, while Russell Churcher takes over at prop and the ubiquitous Rob West reverts to centre.

Southampton and Tottonians are also in league action in London 4 South West, Southampton visiting Barnes and Tottonians travelling to Purley John Fisher.

Southampton are without skipper Andy Shaw, Martin Davis being brought in at hooker. Ian Duncan and Alex Scott both return.

Tottonians recently lost Dave Palmer and Jon Sackeree through moves to Australia, so Julian Howell takes over the fly-half berth and Chris Smith joins Paul Brading in the centre. Micky Johnson resumes at full-back but the veteran Andy Bartram will cover for the injured Paul Goodall at scrum-half.

Gosport & Fareham and Ports-mouth are scheduled to play fifth round Intermediate Cup games, Gos-port at Hertford and Portsmouth at Cobham, although Gosport's match was already in doubt in midweek.

Gosport have several players out through injury and have only named a squad because of further injury doubts.

Skipper Mark Wells remains optimistic, saying, "We've got a great chance. If we want it enough, it's there for the taking." Greg Hodgkiss returns at hooker in virtually a full-strength Ports-mouth team with Neil Styles and James Drew vying for a place on the right wing.

Director of rugby Nigel Morgan said, "We've hardly played since the last round and our last full training session on grass before this week was at the beginning of December, so much will depend on how we cope with our lack of fitness."

Fordingbridge travel to face the Law Society in the fifth round of the Tetley's Bitter Junior Vase.

The captain of a full strength Fordingbridge side, Chris Langford, beamed: "If we play as a unit, we can come away with the required result. We've trained hard this week and are really looking forward to it."

Winchester Colts are also in cup action this weekend in Cornwall for a meeting with Redruth in the third round of the National Clubs Cup.
