RUNNERS with a place in this year's London Marathon are being asked to raise funds for the Marie Curie Cancer Care and give the charity a head start in 2001.

Fund-raising co-ordinator Sally Stemp would like to hear from anyone participating in the 26-mile event who would like to raise money for the 150 local Marie Curie nurses who last year gave practical nursing care to almost 700 Hampshire people with cancer in their own homes, free of charge.

She said: "By running the London Marathon for the Marie Curie Cancer Cared you will be helping to raise the hundreds of thousands of pounds needed each year to run the local service. What's mire, if you get the sponsorship nationwide we'll jet you off to run in the New York Marathon."
