A SPORTS group for disabled people is hoping to expand its building to meet growing demand.

The Gosport and District Sports Association for the Disabled (Gadsad) uses a centre on Elson recreation ground, but wants to build extra storage space and areas for meetings and activities.

Gadsad chairman Mick Hollis said the group has 45 members and plays every kind of sport from pool to shot put.

But since the group moved from its old premises to this hall members had found space restrictions meant they could not do everything they wanted to.

Mr Hollis said: "We will have a go at anything. We used to play basketball but we cannot at the moment - hopefully in the future we might be able to get that back."

Gadsad has applied to Gosport Borough Council for approval in principle for the scheme before starting a study of needs.

Officers have recommended to the leisure committee, which meets next Monday, that approval in principle be given and that more reports be made once firm proposals are drawn up.
