THE penultimate round of the Wessex Junior Flounder League held at Baiter saw 21 youngsters in action, with Ben Cobb beaching four flatties weighing 2lb 2oz to narrowly beat George Carter by the odd ounce.

In third position was Thomas Rushton with a brace of flounders weighing 1lb 9oz followed by Joe Poole with 1lb 7oz.

For the first time, the Sea Anglers Match Federation 20-strong team to take on Belgium in a couple of weeks time on their own turf includes two junior anglers who both come from the Wessex region.

Daniel Mogridge from Fareham and Alex Whitfield from Southsea will be joining other England internationals from the south coast including Darren Phillips and Mike Delaney from Fareham, Malcolm Stote from Lymington and Chris Clark.

The contest will be fished over two days with one night and one day match. Whiting, rockling and dabs should supply most of the action and hopefully the duo of youngsters will have more than their fair share of sport.

All systems are go for the Dave & Linda Classic Pegged Open Flounder competition at Baiter on January 14, which is being organised by Poole Dolphins SAC.
