THE government-backed group working on plans to turn the New Forest into a National Park is looking for a new man or woman to take on key role in the area.
People are being invited by the Countryside Agency for the post of amenity Verderer to serve on the New Forest's Court of Verderers.
The successful applicant will replace Peter Roberts, who resigned recently in protest at the Forestry Commission's "increasing stranglehold" over the Verderers' work.
Emma Peet, the Agency's countryside officer for the New Forest, said said the person being sought would need a good understanding of conservation and recreation issues in the Forest.
"He of she should also be familiar with the role of the Verderers and with commoning issues," she said.
Commoning involves the grazing of animals - mainly ponies and cattle, but also pigs at certain times of the year and occasionally sheep - on the Crown Lands of the Forest.
People wishing to apply should write to the Countryside Agency at Dacre House, 19, Dacre Street, London SW1H 0DH.
