A NEW information centre and office complex in the centre of New Milton has taken another step forward.

But members of New Forest District Council's policy and resources committee heard that there are still some hurdles to be cleared before offices for New Milton Town Council, the district council and the Citizens' Advice Bureau can go ahead.

District offices will include hi-tech information services, including website access and video conferencing.

Any member of the public may have a face-to-face interview with a council tax or housing employee without the need to visit Lymington Town Hall or Appletree Court (the council's headquarters at Lyndhurst).

The scheme, which also includes 12 flats above the offices to be provided and run by the Swaythling Housing Society, is earmarked for the district council-owned Stannington car park.

It was agreed that the committee should support the scheme and that the land should be disposed of under terms to be agreed with Swaythling Housing Society if planning permission is granted.
