EX-INTERNATIONAL Julian Haines is back in the England set-up - as a selector.

The Hampshire skip has been voted to the 10-strong selection panel for a four-year period to choose the outdoor side.

"I tried to become a selector once before but my nomination was unsuccessful, so I am really delighted to make it this time," said the 56-year-old whose international career was in the mid-1980s when based in Berkshire.

Since moving to Hampshire 13 years ago he has become a regular in both the Middleton Cup and Liberty Trophy sides, playing nearly 50 times for their Middleton Cup team.

The Boscombe Cliff player's duties mean he will be checking on international prospects throughout the summer for England team manager John Bell, as well as attending the trials and meetings either at Worthing or in the midlands.

However, he hopes his new job will not affect his commitments with Hampshire.

Haines is used to working alongside Bell - he was at number two and the Cumbrian star was three when their rink took gold under skip Tony Allcock in the World Championships at Edinburgh.
