BRITAIN'S rail network has had its problems but it has been full steam ahead for a popular Hampshire miniature railway.
The Eastleigh Lakeside Railway was in Boxing Day action with its Day Out with Thomas event which operates until New Year's Day from 10.30am to 4.30pm each day. Thomas the Tank Engine and friends will be pulling trains on the full circuit of one and a quarter miles including the newly opened extension.
The fare is £2 (children under two ride free). Travellers can break their journey at Monks Brook Halt to visit the picnic and play areas or walk around the lakes.
You can catch any train back to the main station where car parking is free. For a bargain you can buy a ticket for £4 to give one person three rides instead of two.
