WINCHESTER residents will find advice and information more accessible in the new year as the city's citizens advice bureau extends its opening hours.

From January 11 customers of the St George's Street centre will be able to take advantage of a telephone and appointments service on Thursday evenings between 4pm and 7pm, and Saturday mornings between 10am and 1pm.

Bureau manager Jenny Meadows, said: "The year 2001 will find the bureau open for 30 hours per week.

"We were conscious that not everyone was able to contact us during normal working hours and the increase in opening hours allows for them to be able to use our services.

"The current team of 50 volunteer advisers who give an average of ten hours per week to the bureau ensure that a quality, professional service is offered to whoever contacts us."
